PALIO DI SIENA
On July 2 and August 16 in Siena there is the Palio. This historic event has its origins in medieval times and consists of a horse race called “career”. 10 districts compete in a thrilling race, where the support of the Contradas is an integral part of the race. The expert jockeys train for months with their horses, but the characteristic of the race is that the horse is the winner of the race. Jockeys and horses are remembered for years and will stay in the memory of the lovers of the Palio, famous throughout the world. The Palio is preceded by a beautiful costume parade and by the performance of the flag wavers.
MONTERIGGIONI DI TORRI SI CORONA
In July in Monteriggioni there’s the Monteriggioni di Torri si Corona. It is an historical re-enactment in medieval style. Every year they choose a subject related to that period and organize a sumptuous banquet at the castle, costume parades, games and performances. Besides the castle, the whole town goes back in time to recreate an evocative atmosphere that involves locals and visitors. The restaurants offer themed menus and the air is filled with ancient music.

EROICA
In October, in Gaiole in Chianti there’s the Eroica. This is an amateur cycling race that every year sees hundreds of people from all over Italy. There’s also a breathtaking race dedicated to vintage bikes. Heroic is who wins this race, but ideally all the participants are the winners, because the vintage bikes did not have the mechanisms and the design of the modern ones, the bikes were simple and facing the trials on dirt road between the hills of Siena, represents a huge effort!
MOSTRA MERCATO TARTUFO BIANCO
In November in San Giovanni d’Asso there’s the white truffle market. The time is perfect for the ripening of the truffle and the woods of the Crete Senesi are the ideal environment for the collection of white truffles of the best quality. For the occasion, there’s also the exhibition of extra virgin olive oil and pecorino cheese, other excellence products of this beautiful area. Guests can taste and buy these delicious local products.
