An enchanting stay between natura and art on Lake Garda

In recent years many people have chosen to spend their holidays on Lake Garda, surrounded by unspoilt nature and fresh, clean air. In order to enjoy an enchanting stay between natura and art on Lake Garda, the ideal place to stay is the Hotel Gardenia al Lago, a welcoming structure located in Villa di Gargnano, on the Lombard side of Lake Garda.

Hotel Gardenia al Lago overlooks this wonderful lake and is surrounded by the mountains of the Brescian Upper Garda Park: from here you can easily reach the various towns of the Garda Riviera.

Gardone Riviera

Among the destinations not to be missed there is Gardone Riviera, where you can visit the wonderful Vittoriale Museum.

It is a complex of streets, buildings, gardens, squares, waterways and an outdoor theater built in 1921 by Gabriele d’Annunzio with the help of the architect Gian Carlo Maroni, as a symbol of the “inimitable life” of the poet-soldier and the achievements of Italians during the First World War.

Vittoriale Museum, Gardone Riviera

From the Vittoriale you can easily reach the botanical garden “Hruska” created by the Czechoslovakian botanist and naturalist Arturo Hruska, who arrived in Italy in 1906, and was so enchanted by the beauty of the lake that he bought a plot of land of 15,000 hectares that he transformed into a botanical garden.

The enchantment and the magical and surreal atmosphere that you can breathe in this garden that today houses more than 300 species of plants, attracts tourists from all over the world.

Salò

The first town on the Riviera dei Limoni, whose history is tied to the Second World War, Salò is the ideal starting point to explore Lake Garda.

Worth a visit is the Duomo dedicated to the Annunziata, dating back to the second half of the fifteenth century, built on a former ancient structure.

Of late Gothic style, it has an internal subdivision into 3 naves interspersed with grey stone columns supporting ogival vaults and large arches. The bell tower preserves the base of the oldest church, which also belongs to the Chapter Hall decorated with frescoes of the ‘400.

Duomo of Salò

The side chapels, on the other hand, date back to the end of the 16th century and house two important works by Romanino.

For those who are passionate about contemporary art, you can admire the many works at the MuSa, inaugurated in 2015, which every month hosts important exhibitions and world masterpieces programmed by the famous art critic Vittorio Sgarbi.

Sanctuary of Montecastello

A monument of great charm in Tignale is the Sanctuary of Montecastello, also known as the sanctuary of the Madonna della Stella, since it is said that in 1200 the Virgin appeared in the sky in the form of a star that ended the battle between Brescia and Trentino.

It is not only one of the most sacred places of Garda, but a place from which you can enjoy a wonderful view that ranges from the high peaks of Mount Baldo to the peninsula of Sirmione.

Erected on the ruins of an ancient temple, it houses the “Casa Santa“, a small temple dating back to 800 A.D. inside which is preserved the biggest ex-voto in Europe.
