During the summer, in Crodo and in its villages, you can attend to Fior d’Acqua (water flower), a festival born to enhance the beauty of the mountain villages. These towns still have old stone washbasins, many fountains and watering places for animals, which are decorated with colorful flowers for the event. Moreover there are very small gardens on the water that you can visit along paths created by the same community, paths that will bring you to discover the most hidden corners of these nice villages.
In September, in Montecrestese, takes place the Potato Feast. Since its foundation 20 years ago, this festival wants to enhance Montecrestese’s biological potato and at the same time be a exhibition for many other local farmer’s products. Among the local farmers will be awarded those who will bring the heaviest potato, the most original potato and the most beautiful artistic composition. Between the stands you can enjoy many potato dishes such as salads, sweet or savory pies, bread. Also other dishes with potato such as grilled or roasted meats or puree with braised. At the festival there will be many games, music and cabaret shows to entertain the public.
AUTUMN IN CRODO
In October, in Crodo, takes place Autumn in Crodo. The program is full of events, including the Presepist Course, a local tradition that stand out in all its beauty during the holidays. In addition, BiancoLatte, a market exhibition of all dairy products produced in the Alta Ossola. For the ones who love sport, there are itineraries to walk among the mule tracks to discover the lush nature of this land, and easy paths suitable for families and children. To enrich the program there are also concerts and music events.
APPLES AND HONEY
At the end of October in Baceno takes place Apples and Honey, an food and crafts exhibition. The concept of the exhibition is “on the road between rock and sky”, highlighting all the excellence of the territory from the food to the treasures of the mountain community that keep on to preserve its genuineness and tradition day by day. The mountain offers great benefit, but also sacrifice, and the depopulation of recent decades is also faced with sustainable and organized tourism. Apples and Honey offer a show of mountain traditions and is an invitation to tourists and young people to discover it.
CHRISTMAS CRIBS ON THE WATER
Between December and January, in Crodo and its villages, you can visit Presepi Sull’Acqua (Christmas cribs on the water). The magic of Christmas in the small snowy villages is something unique! To complete this dreamy environment, the community prepares over forty cribs set up on fountains or washbasins. Walking through these alleys means discovering the simplicity of Christmas and at the same time see something spectacular, with crib patterns made of local materials such as stone, wood and fabric, and gurgling water in the background.
