Ostellato is a village in Ferrara district, in Emilia Romagna. It is part of the territory included in the Regional Park of the Po Delta of Emilia-Romagna and is in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage sites along with the town of Ferrara.
The Po Delta Park offers many opportunities for hiking among pine forests and valleys rich in fauna and destinations for birdwatching. It’s possible to follow routes on foot, by bike or on horseback and boat trips along the river. In Ostellato you can visit the Pieve di San Vito, dating back to the eleventh century and modified in the following centuries. Its Romanesque structure is one of the best preserved of the territory also thanks to the restoration of the ’20s. It was built on a temple of which we can still see some interesting findings as pagan altars and the marble sarcophagus reused inside the church, as was usual at the beginning of Christianity.
Near the town there’s Ferrara which boasts a rich artistic and cultural heritage, especially from the Renaissance period. Among the many attractions of this beautiful town there is the Cathedral of Saint George dating back to the fifteenth century, the Herculean Addition built by the Este and the beautiful Estense Castle, symbol of the town. This impressive fortress offers various rooms rich in furniture, frescoes, statues and paintings of great value. Among the most important points there are the St Paul’s Tower, Dawn Hall, the Coat of Arms Hall, the Loggia of the Aranci.
