Set in Piedmont in the winegrowing district of Montferrat (Monferrato in Italian) overlooking the Cerrina Valley, it is surrounded by an immense and wonderful countryside, just few kilometers from the National Park of Sacred Mount of Crea (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and its Roman catholic sanctuary. Casale Monferrato – 18 kilometers from La Locanda dell’Arte, became capital of the Montferrat in 1434 and in the historical city centre, medieval monuments and prestigious palaces of the Baroque period are an exceptional living testimony of its past grandeur. The worldwide renowned wine labels such as Barbera del Monferrato and Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese inscribed Monteferrato onto UNESCO World Heritage. The so-called “infernot”, small underground rooms dug into sandstone and used for domestic wine storage are also part of the World Heritage of Piedmont.

Mrs. Maria Palumbo Sormani, owner of the Locanda dell’Arte, was a primary school teacher, her teaching activity and dedication to pupils – actually she also has many nieces and nephews –tie her to this place in a peculiar way. In the past a nursery and primary school livened up a wing of this huge two-storey building which dates back to the 18th century. An infant table from the school canteen of old times is still left, it has pre-drilled holes which were used to place bowls in order to prevent soup spills. That place identity is still alive, in fact, at La Locanda dell’Arte special care and attention is paid to little guests with play areas both in public areas and in some of the rooms with what is needed to engage them such as illustrated books and toys.

Completely surrounded by the luxuriant nature of Montferrat, the horseshoe-shaped building of Locanda dell’Arte encloses an inner courtyard and a porch. Guestrooms have their individual design, with wood flooring, light brown or white furniture and bright wall colors where works of art by different artists are displayed. The hotel also offers spacious halls, a wellness centre with indoor pool and sauna, a restaurant with stunning panoramic view.

The name of the hotel Locanda dell’Arte (literally “art’s inn”) is also related to its art gallery, a long rooms with suggestive vault ceiling and stone details hosts modern and contemporary works of art.
