Tenuta di Santa Lucia is in the heart of Tuscia, the land of the mysterious Etruscans. Situated at the foot of the Cimino Mountain, it is 4 km away from the little old town of Soriano nel Cimino, which boasts a palace designed by the great Vignola for the prominent Chigi family. Tenuta di Santa Lucia stands between the ancient town of Orte and Vico, a volcanic lake famous for its nature reserve of oak and chestnut trees, which can be reached in 30 minutes. Viterbo, known as the City of Popes and Saint Rose, is only 25 minutes away; at about the same distance is the town of Bomarzo with its surreal Park of the Monsters, and Terme dei Papi, the hot springs of the Popes, just outside Viterbo. This area of Lazio is absolutely beautiful, filled with ancient art cities and lots more to discover.
Set deep in the Viterbo countryside, Tenuta di Santa Lucia includes fields cultivated with fragrant lavender, hay and cereals, and also olive and hazelnut groves. For about two centuries the Trua family has owned this estate and the farmhouse, the “Bigattiera”, where in the late 18th century silkworms were bred just as they were all over the surrounding countryside. Today the Bigattiera is a handsome guest house that consists of two adjacent buildings, of which one extends over two floors and the other over three floors; it is built of the local peperino, a grey stone particularly beloved in this area of Lazio. It was used for the window frames, the imposing fireplace and the distinguished screw staircase, as well as the beams and walls. The indoor communal areas are bright and spacious, whilst outdoors the garden is a haven, with open views over the fields that turn from green to gold with the changing seasons. It features a well and a fountain with water lilies, an infinity pool with peperino stone flooring and a jacuzzi tub. In the renowned restaurant of Tenuta di Santa Lucia guests are served delicious food prepared with the products of the farm, or grown in the neighbouring fields; in summer they can sit under the pergola and enjoy their meals alfresco.
Tenuta di Santa Lucia offers two apartments, one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor, a suite, and three spacious rooms, of which one is in the attic. For the most part they have wood ceiling beams and stone tiles, and are beautifully furnished with antique furniture.
