Relais Vedetta is nestled in the woods of a hilly relief towards the Gulf of Follonica, in front of Elba Island, just ten minutes from the inland town of Scarlino and its turreted fortress and half an hour from Punta Ala and its marina. The area of the province of Grosseto, in the southern Tuscany is very varied: a wavy and sometimes inaccessible hinterland gives way to beautiful nature reserves of pines, oaks and bays along the coast. In Vetulonia, one of the most important cities of Etruria, forty km. away from the Relais, the first historical evidence dates back to the 11th century BC: monumental tombs and archaeological itineraries are of great interest. In Maremma trekking lovers can choose among many nature trails and there is no need for a car to reach them.
The owner of the Relais Vedetta is the descendant of a historic family from Scarlino, she has carefully restored the family’s old farmhouse, a large property that includes fifteen acres of woods and olive groves for the production of extra virgin olive oil. After many years at the helm of major companies and a flurry of activity around the world, Anna Barberini chose to return to Tuscany, to her Maremma, to create an exclusive charming hotel. She loves telling the stories of those places so tied to memory, emotions, the characters and objects of the family, a subtle leitmotif that permeates all space and style of the property. Probably the owner’s perfect touch of class is also tied to her stays in hotels around the world and is visible in all details, modular environments are designed to attain maximum comfort.
Nothing was left to chance in designing the six suites of Relais Vedetta: high quality materials such as limestone, travertine, marble and wood: the peculiar light parquet floor with long dark inserts that recalls the waves. All suites are spacious and different, some with terrace and stunning views, each suite is dedicated to a character, three men and three women, who revive thanks to the owner’s childhood memories.
Warm colors in shades from beige, sand, yellow, perfectly match the family’s antique furniture, designer objects, furniture and home accessories from different countries, elements made of masonry and designed to perfection. Outside a large porch invites contemplation of the landscape. The “Rossocorbezzolo” restaurant opens in the evening and offers a selection of local and the freshest seasonal garden products and, obviously, a selection of Italian DOC wines from Maremma.
