Le Due Matote is a stone’s throw away from the main square of the lovely medieval town of Bossolasco, once renowned as the “town of roses” and situated in the Alta Langa region. Set in the heart of the prestigious wine producing area of Piedmont, it is within easy reach of Alba (45 minutes away), famous for its truffles and Barolo wine, and Dogliani (30 minutes), another delightful medieval town. The Langhe area, with its rolling hills crossed by vineyards, is also perfect for walks and bike rides.
Le Due Matote has an uncommon name which is however unequivocally connected with Piedmont; in fact, matota means girl in the Piedmontese dialect. The owners Costanza and Andrea have managed to accomplish a perfect restoration of this 18th-century building, with its two quite different facades: one facing the street and painted in a rose pink colour, while at the back the facade is in stone and overlooks the pool nestled in the charming garden. The interiors are refined and cozy, furnished with antiques; every detail has been designed and intended to put visitors at ease and make them feel at home. Guests are free to use the little relaxation area with aromatic sauna that exploits the beneficial effects of hay and mountain herbs; there is also a steam room scented with eucalyptus and wormwood, and a massage room. Additionally, Le Due Matote has a cellar for wine tasting, and offers cookery lessons and guided truffle hunts in the woods of oaks and chestnuts typical of the Alta Langa area.
There are 6 spacious rooms at Le Due Matote, each different from the others. Their antique furniture is in perfect harmony with the exposed beams, the floors in terracotta or stone, and the hand-picked furnishings in matching style. The house is rented only on an exclusive basis for a minimum of 4 nights Here food and wine are extremely important, made as they are from seasonal organic produce, provided by the local farmers. For those who wish to continue sampling the products of the area, a visit to “La Drogheria di Langa”, a few doors away from Le Due Matote at no 66 Via Umberto I in Bossolasco, in the Langhe area, is essential: this is in fact a restaurant, coffee shop, bistrot and traditional shop all in one.
