Borgata Cantone is situated on the stunning Western coastline of Liguria, the famous Riviera di Ponente. Perched high on a plateau which rises before the sea, with the Maritime Alps standing guard at the back, it enjoys a superb position, surrounded by the countryside that spreads out all around the little town of Garlenda. Twenty minutes in the car and one reaches Albenga, the ancient “City of the Hundred Towers”, or, heading slightly south, the brightly-lit Alassio, also known as the “City of Lovers”, which overlooks a beautiful bay. Sport lovers can visit the splendid 18-hole golf course that is only five minutes away, or take one of the innumerable cycle routes and explore the area.
Borgata Cantone is a small 18th-century stone country house on the doorstep of Garlenda, in the midst of hills clad with the pine and the olive tree typical of this part of Liguria’s hinterland. A varied garden runs around the house, beautifully maintained with palmetto and olive trees, hanging containers and patterned cobbled paths; guests will love sitting in one of its lovely nooks or relaxing in a deckchair by the seawater pool. Emanuel and Vittoria, the owners, have created a myriad of delightful corners to enjoy the view: tiny courtyards and terraces on split levels, and also a barbecue area with stone tables to dine al fresco. Breakfast consists of delicious organic local produce; respect for the environment has also led to the choice of natural fabrics for furnishings and bed linen, and eco-friendly household products and toiletries.
There are two guest rooms on the first floor of Borgata Cantone, both with wonderful views: one looks out over the valley, and the other, complemented by a wooden gambrel roof ceiling, opens out over the garden. The attractive suite and the two-storey annexe, with exposed beams, have their own private entrance, and, like the rooms, are equipped with Wi-Fi.
