Relais Valcastagno

The Relais Valcastagno  is on the Sirolo hills, in the Conero Regional Park.  This is an enchanting and also convenient situation to explore the Marche’s marvellous attractions: the beautiful Conero Riviera beaches (Numana, Sirolo, and Marcelli, to mention but a few) are just 10-15 minutes away; the attractive Sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreto is also very near, and Ancona can be reached easily in half an hour.

Relais Valcastagno consists of a series of apartments which have been created within the old barn that stood in the grounds of Villa Virginia, and a hotel that was once the farmhouse, built in the 1930s by the aristocratic Nembrini Gonzaga family for their sharecroppers, farmers who managed the Marquis’ land in exchange for their accommodation.  In later years, during World War II, Marquis Alberto Nembrini Gonzaga heroically rescued numerous Jewish families by hiding them in the cellar of Valcastagno, and this earned him the mention of “Righteous among the Nations” by Israel in 2012.

Relais Valcastagno belongs to Emmanuel, a descendant of Marquis Alberto, and Francesca, and they are the most courteous and competent proprietors, always happy to offer advice on restaurants and beaches, trekking and mountain-biking explorations in the surrounding countryside of Conero Regional Park in Marches.

Depending on their needs, guests can choose the hotel or the apartments.  The hotel has eight rooms (both Standard and Superior); they are furnished very simply in the typical country style of the area, with four poster beds in some of the rooms, finishings in the local Conero white stone and fired tiles on the floor.The apartments are of various sizes, with one or two bedrooms, and a well equipped kitchen, all very functional and comfortable.

Relais Valcastagno offers a good breakfast to kick start the day.  Guests will sample a selection of fresh products of the best quality, like the delicious cakes prepared on the premises every day, and the excellent organic jams and honey.  And for those in search of relaxation there is the hotel spa, with sauna, Turkish bath and massage room.
