Il Sambuco B&B is a little “maso” (farmhouse), as this kind of building is known locally. Standing at 800 m above sea level, it is located in Vignola Falesina, a very small village of the Trentino region, surrounded by woods at the foot of Mount Panarotta, which is a popular ski destination. It enjoys a favourable position, close as it is to the city of Trento, the lively town of Pergine Valsugana and the Levico and Caldonazzo Lakes, respectively 15, 3 and 5 km away. In the vicinity is also the splendid Mocheni Valley, where visitors can go Nordic walking and bike riding, or, having put on their snowshoes, or “ciaspole”, hike to the charming Alpine dairies of the area, known as “malghe”, and the welcoming shelters that face the imposing mountain range of the Lagorai. The Vetriolo and Levico Spas are another local attraction, and, for those who love art as well as nature and the open air, there are two important museums in the region: MUSE in Trento, and MART in Rovereto.
While staying at Il Sambuco B&B, visitors will feel regenerated, sitting in the solarium or on the veranda and breathing the fresh mountain air while drinking in the beauty of the valley. This old “maso” was originally built in the 1850s; it has been slowly, painstakingly renovated, and only recently all the stages of the restoration have been completed. Natural materials have been used throughout the reconstruction and the result is a building that has preserved its original features and is in perfect harmony with its surroundings now as it was when first built, one of the many “masi” that dot these Trentino mountains. Il Sambuco B&B owes its name to the elder tree, which was believed to possess healing properties, according to folk wisdom. Today elderflower syrup is offered to the guests on their arrival on a summer day, and they can enjoy it at breakfast too, together with freshly prepared sweet and savoury dishes, fruit from the nearby orchards, and locally produced eggs, cold meats and cheeses. Herbal teas and Nespresso coffee, on the other hand, are always available.
At Il Sambuco B&B there are three beautiful rooms, two double rooms, Lampone and Salvia, and one suite. The rooms are different but share a carefully chosen and elegant design, with beautiful old larch wood flooring, 19th-century furniture and modern furnishings. The ancient barn has been recently converted into an equally attractive 50 sqm suite, Lavanda, with handsome exposed beams, offering a double bed and a twin in separated area.
