Casale Santa Rosalia

Via Sala, , Rooms: 5 / Opening dates: 1 March – 31 October from € 70 - to € 100

Casale Santa Rosalia stands outside the town of San Mauro, in the Cilento National Park of the Campania region.  The coast is within easy reach; in fact the well-equipped beach of Acciaroli is only 8 km away, while in an hour one can get to the protected sea nature reserve of Santa Maria di Castellabate, which includes the village of Punta Licosa and also that of Ogliastro Marina, which instead is only half an hour away.  In addition, an hour drive is all it takes to reach the archaeological site of Paestum.

Sitting on top of a hill overlooking the blue and green waters of the splendid sea that washes the Cilento coast, Casale Santa Rosalia is blessed with wonderful views.  Its owners live a slow way of life, which, they believe, awakens one’s innermost nature and helps support and preserve the nature of the land and sea of the Cilento.  They are also believers of “walkscapes”, of “walking as an aesthetic practice” and “as a form of art” in itself, according to the definitions given by a number of contemporary artists.  Casale Santa Rosalia offers walkscaping workshops that draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape, and from the many mule tracks and paths signposted by the CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) that make up a unique route, about 40 km long, and penetrate the Mediterranean shrubland and woodland of Monte Stella which is typical of Campania, with its oak and chestnut trees.

The two-storey farmhouse is made entirely of stone.  The bedrooms are on the first floor while the communal area where visitors can relax and watch TV is on the ground floor.  There is a portico equipped with barbecue facilities and a wood burning oven, and also a terrace covered with a pergola.  At Casale Santa Rosalia food is treated with great care.  Its dishes are of the best local tradition; their ingredients are all fresh and produced on the nearby farms, many of which are supported by the Slow Food Presidia.  Due to the high situation of the house one can enjoy spectacular views from anywhere, including the peaceful garden that runs around it.

There are 5 rooms at Casale Santa Rosalia.  Their walls are white, just as the large window frames and the doors are white, which sets off the furniture in the Mediterranean style perfectly.  Iron wrought beds draped in blue linens, in the colours of the sea and the sky, decorate the rooms, while balconies and solariums provide panoramic views.
