Casa Talìa is an elegant Albergo Diffuso located in the historic town centre of Modica, in South East Sicily.  Set deep in the Val di Noto, Modica boasts some of the finest examples of late Baroque architecture, thanks to which it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2002. At a brief distance from Ragusa, the capital city of the province of the same name, which stands just 20 km away, Modica is one of the most picturesque centres of the area and indeed of the whole island of Sicily, and is also blessed with proximity to the sea and the beautiful beaches of Pozzallo, Sampieri and Marina di Modica, which can be reached after a drive of 30 minutes.

Casa Talìa is an “albergo diffuso”, exquisite with its rooms, suites and apartments “spread” over a number of little stone houses in what was once the Jewish ghetto, and favoured with panoramic views of the old city.  Marco and Viviana, the young proprietors, are architects originally from Milan; they have carefully restored the houses in accordance with the local building traditions and using natural materials of the area.  Driven by their love for Sicily, its natural beauty, culture and history, they moved to the island and have now accomplished a significant environmental restoration project.  In the centre of Modica, Casa Talìa is nevertheless a tranquil oasis where every detail is the result of a deliberate choice that stems from the owners’ philosophy of slow; the whole complex has indeed been designed for slow living, to appreciate the natural passing of time.  Because of the uneven ground on which the houses are built, they are on different levels, disposed around a delightful central garden with fruit and citrus trees, and plants typical of the Mediterranean.  In this perfectly tended garden, which is truly at the heart of Casa Talìa, guests will relax and meet each other surrounded by scents of nature and a perfect, quiet atmosphere.

Casa Talìa consists of 9 rooms and 2 houses that can be rented as a whole, and they are all provided with internet access.  The rooms are very different and quite unique, furnished simply and well, and decorated with design accessories.  Exposed stone in all shapes and sizes, bamboo canes for the ceilings, vintage ceramic tiles for the floors are only some of the materials used to restore the internal spaces, with a careful eye to keep their original character.  A delicious breakfast is served in the garden and from the terraces of the rooms the old Modica town is visible in all its splendour.
