Vedetta Lodges is located in Tuscany, on the ridge of a hill that stands at 150 m above sea level.  The area, known as Poggio La Forcola, is covered by woodland that extends to about 15 hectares; this is a beautiful location, hilly and verdant, with panoramic views that stretch down to the Gulf of Follonica.  The medieval town of Scarlino, perched on a turreted rock, is only 10 minutes distant, whilst the seaside resort of Punta Ala lies about 30 minutes away.  Vetulonia, which stands on the site of one of the most powerful Estruscan cities, is 40 km distant.  It preserves ancient remains from 11th century BC, like the monumental tombs, and offers interesting routes around the archaeological area.  And for those who want to discover the natural beauties of the Maremma region, many are the trails and tracks for walking and trekking.

Vedetta Lodges is a luxury camping site in the midst of the countryside, ideal for glamorous camping or “glamping”. This is the most recent brainchild of Anna Barberini, the energetic proprietor whose links with Scarlino go back many generations.  She has gained precious experience in the hospitality sector by managing two charming guesthouses, Relais Vedetta and Vedetta Townhouse.  The guests of Vedetta Lodges are welcomed in the reception area of Relais Vedetta and dine at the Rossocorbezzolo, its excellent restaurant.  This glamping site is a novelty in Maremma and in Italy at large; it offers a unique opportunity to experience the outdoors and enjoy the marvellous nature of this area of Tuscany without foregoing the comforts of a luxurious and spacious hotel suite; the lodges have phone and Wi Fi facilities provided by Relais Vedetta, for instance, and in the morning the ingredients for a delicious breakfast are packed in a basket and delivered to the porch of the suites.

At Vedetta Lodges there are seven self-contained suites named after the Pleiades and set deep in the woods; they are built of white wood and surmounted by equally white tents, while indoors wood floors and panelling on the walls come in various tones.  Beautiful and elegant, and lovingly decorated, with rich curtains framing the floor-to-ceiling windows, their internal space of over 50 sqm is well proportioned and divided into sleeping quarters, bathroom and living area with sofa and tables, all air conditioned; a minibar and kettle are also provided.  Three of the lodges enjoy a vista of picturesque Scarlino, while the other four look out over the sea and the islands of Corsica and Elba: from each of the porches that span the front of the suites and sit high among the organic olive trees the views are stunning at all times; however they are never as spectacular as when the tints of dawn and sunset colour the landscape and render it magical.
