SAINT CONRAD FEAST
Twice a year, on 29 February and on the last Sunday of August, in Noto, they celebrate the patron of the town, Corrado Confalonieri knight of Piacenza. During the feast of Saint Conrad, the urn of the Saint is carried in a procession by the “Portatori” and followed by the faithful who, making a vow, walk barefoot from their house to the historic center of the town.
MODICA FLOWER SHOW
Modica Flower Show takes place in Modica in March. Crafts, food and wine, workshops, gardening courses, this is the rich program that is the setting for one of the most picturesque exhibitions in Sicily. Rare and unusual plants are at the center of a nursery show that has a national importance.
EASTER, PEACE FESTIVAL
The Festa della Pace (Peace festival) in Noto, coincides with Easter. The Our Lady, carried in procession, meets the statue of the Risen Christ. Both the simulacra are lead together to the Cathedral and before they are both take back in the respective Church, they bless the faithful rushed to attend to the procession. Our Lady takes off her veil in mourning and shows herself in all her beauty.
The Infiorata is a special event that takes place in May in Noto. In the middle of spring, dozens of floral artists work all night to create an evocative carpet of flowers on one of the city’s main streets. The total surface covered by colorful and scented flowers is equal to 700 square meters.
FESTA DELLA MADONNA DEL CARMINE
In Ispica the celebrations for the Madonna del Carmine take place in July. The festivities reach their peak with the celebration of the 5 Masses on July 16th. The procession, led by the Mayor and the city authorities, leaves at midnight towards the Sanctuary where the Our Lady will receive a floral tribute, the votive candle and the keys of the city.
Traditions, culture, art, music, literature are the elements that accompany the special urban trekking that takes place in Ispica on July 29th and every Friday in August. To inspire the event named I Sentieri del Gelsomino (jasmine paths), was the ancient tradition of the harvest of jasmine that was experienced as a feast.
Every year the inviting scent of fried fish attracts many visitors to Pozzallo for the most awaited event in town: the Fish Feast. Supported by the music of the most important Sicilian orchestras, it takes place from 12 to 20 August and is one of the most characteristic food and wine festivals in Sicily.
