Il Poggio degli Olivi is in the splendid region of Umbria, around 5 minutes away from Bettona by car.  Known in ancient times as Vettona, this charming town is of Etruscan origin, apparently the only one of their colonies to be situated on the left bank of the river Tiber, and it enjoys the most wonderful views.  When the Romans arrived to take up residence, they built a forum, a focal point around which buildings were erected through the centuries, with some of them still standing to this day.  Other attractions in the vicinity include Assisi, just 20 minutes away, and in 15 minutes one can reach Collemancio, a jewel of a village, and the historic town of Spello, with its Roman amphitheatre and baths, and city walls that are amongst the oldest and best preserved in Italy.

Il Poggio degli Olivi is set deep in the green countryside of Umbria, and looks out over the valley towards Spello, Assisi and Perugia.  Its large estate comprises a farm including approximately 6000 olive trees and an olive oil mill, and is run by the owners and their family.  The farmhouse and its outbuildings date back to the 17th century and harmonize well with one another, despite being quite different; they are  two storey high, made of stone and decorated with window shutters and traditional sloping tiled roofs.  All around extends a park, fragrant with flowers and crisscrossed with paths flanked by trees; whether walking along the lanes or exercising on the fitness trail, the guests of Il Poggio degli Olivi will not fail to encounter the animals of the farm and sometimes even deer.  In the garden a beautiful pool and solarium invite to relax, and massage treatments are available on request.  There are tennis courts for the sport lovers, and the olive oil mill, which produces an excellent extra virgin quality, is open to visitors. “La Veranda” restaurant, located in the main building and with outdoor seating, is open during the warm seasons and offers the best of the local traditional gastronomy; in the other periods “Osteria di Vin Porcello”, on the first floor, is open Friday and Saturday evenings for the joy of the guests.  The country style of its décor and the wood beams on the ceiling create a welcoming environment; dishes of meat and homemade pasta are served with the finest regional and national wines.  In the morning the guests will be offered a delicious breakfast and will savour the fresh produce of Il Poggio degli OliviFor relax a large swimming pool overlooking Assisi and the beautiful valley and massages, to be booked in advance.

Il Poggio degli Olivi is ideal for a holiday of peace and relaxation.  There are twelve rooms located in attractive one-storey buildings situated on a hill, and provided with their own little patio.  They are named after the plants and flowers that grow in the region and are decorated with wrought iron and wood beds fitted with striped and floral linen, in the country tradition of the area.
